Leviticus 19:4 (NIV)
"Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God"
An issue many people face in their walk with Christ is idol worship, while yes this can mean the stereotypical statue worship, this also includes earthly things like approval (from people), relationship, lifestyle, money and etc. While having a goals like being more fit, find a loyal partner, and to have financial freedom are all good, focusing on any goal too much will take your eyes off God. That is where sin starts to follow, for example, laziness, greed where you focus only on business or finance and no longer put God first or do it for Him, lust where you develop desires for a relationship so badly that you no longer seek relationship with God. Some may even go back to old habits like porn addiction or even seek worldly relationships.
Idols come in many forms, but a better definition, so you know if you have an idol, is when you have something in your life that you value more than God, something that you put more thought and time into than God, and in most cases these actually disrespect God and He hates them (God loves us but hates sin). Think to yourself is the time I spend with and for God proportional to the time I spend doing this thing? Ask yourself if you could go, an hour, a day or a week without this thing. For some of us this can be our phones or social media, which aren't always bad for you if you use them correctly. When you go on your phone spend time on the Bible app (it's free) or watch a sermon of a pastor you like, you may even be recommended some teaching or Bible study on your feed or for you page on social media, so watch them, you will be surprised how often God tries to speak to us directly in our lives. This is why fasting is so important as it gives your spirit an opportunity to grow, and for you to build your relationship with God, it also shows you how much you rely on certain things in your life which you, frankly, don't need to.
Just know that most things of this world you can live without, but a life without God is a life where your spiritually dead and have a hole in your life which can never be filled by anything else. If you want to have goals in your life remember that before any of them God comes first. A verse that is good to refer to is Matthew 6:33, which says "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well." Meditate and affirm on this verse everyday, remind yourself that seeking God will bring you what you need and give you "life and life more abundantly". God wants the best for you, otherwise He wouldn't have sacrificed His Son, or taught us so many lessons for us to grow. There is no better book than the Bible to learn about finance, fitness, love and mental health, because God wants us to give us knowledge and instruction to live happily on this Earth, and even better with Him in Heaven. We just have love Him and let Him love us. Trust God in everything!
